Dispatches From The Star Wars Universe: Bringing Democracy To The Ewoks

The following transmission was picked up by The Holy Book of Robocop's long-range satellites. Its exact origins are not known, although it is clearly from a long time ago and a galaxy far, far away.

An Ewok insurgent

At the start of this galactic month our war on Endor was to claim its thousandth Imperial life.

After almost four years of fighting we examine how close we are in bringing democracy to the savage Ewok tribes.

The consensus is that any future progress on Endor will depend upon the attitudes of the local populace.

It is here that we face potentially our biggest problem.

There is no doubt that at least some sections of Ewok society remain hostile to our presence. Shows of defiance range from the theft of speeder bikes to the throwing of stones at Imperial Storm Troopers.

Imperial sources are adamant that these displays represent only a small segment of the population. The vast majority of Ewoks, they say, are supportive of our efforts and have enthusiastically adopted wider galactic habits like pod racing and the sale of death sticks.

However, this may be painting an overly optimistic picture.

Other reports suggests that the situation on Endor is actually deteriorating, and that resistance to our presence may be growing.

Videos have circulated that suggest Ewok insurgents have learnt to use improvised ambush devices (IADs) against Imperial walkers. Crudely made, these devices have nevertheless proven brutally effective.

The horror of Ewok IADs

Most worrying of all rumours of rebel activity on Endor have refused to go away.

One source has even suggested that rogue android C3PO is operating somewhere on the forest moon. Having set himself up as cult leader amongst the superstitious Ewoks the outlaw droid could be using his status as living god to direct attacks against Imperial troops.

When question the Ewok spokesman maintained that his people are merely acting in defence of their homes, which he claims are threatened by Imperial incursions.

Imperial sources countered by claiming that these "villages" are in fact hotbeds of fanaticism and are guilty of breeding new generations of insurgents.

They are even suspected of housing central rebel figures such as the infamous Chewbacca, known as "Chewie" to his comrades.

Whatever the case it seems certain that hostilities on Endor, as elsewhere in the galaxy, are likely to continue for some time.

End of transmission.
